Manchester City end decades wait and finally beat Arsenal away, 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. The fixture was more about referee Mike Dean who was at the center of a boiled up contest between Gunners and City players.
Arsenal lose ground chasing for the final champions league spot, currently they are 6 points behind rivals Tottenham with a game in hand. On the other side, the visitors knew they had to win to keep up with United in the title race and could not have asked for a better start.
In the 9th minute of the game, City played the ball in the box and Edin Dzeko could have easily pounced on the opportunity to score but Laurent Koscielny wrestled him down with a silly rugby tackle. Mike dean did not miss that and sent Koscielny off.
Replays suggested that the referee was spot on with his decision as the Arsenal defender had both arms wrapped around City Striker to bring him down. Koscielny can have no arguments there.
City had an easy run from there in the first half as they capitalized with an extra man to score twice. First, a stunning strike by James Milner set up by Carlos Tevez and second, a tap in for Edin Dzeko again with a crucial contribution provided by the Argentine Tevez.
What followed was an exciting battle where Wenger somehow revived his 10 Gunners to take the fight to City perhaps much to the despair of Mike Dean who had a busy second half. Jack Wilshere was the main threat for the Gunners and the youngster was brought down numerous times by the sky blues.
Every time a tackle on Wilshere brought up jeers from the Arsenal fans directed towards Mike Dean when he did not book City players. Eventually City captain Vincent Kompany was sent off a bit harshly for his so so double-footed tackle.
From the referee’s view, it did look a dangerous one so the referee cannot be blamed for producing the red card. Adding to that, the rule suggests the same, if both feet leave the ground in a tackle, may it be dangerous or not, the red card comes out.
Mike Dean produced no less than six yellow cards and two red cards in the fixture. The early sending off for Gunners spoiled the game but the referee got both of his major decisions right on the night.
Disagree with Kos red card-at max that was yellow Dean as usual a dumb
Mike Dean is not capable as centre refree,
the last arsenal 16 game he officiate arsenal manage to win one that shows that the man hate arsenal
Mike Dean was sent to do a specific job of ensuring that City wins and He did the job perfectly. Money is actually speaking.
If kos were to be a man utd player he wont be given a red card.
EPL need to retire some referees like Dean, and send others on a refresher course. i’m getting tired of the bouring refereeing in England.
