In the next few days I will be doing a short preview of Liverpool´s business in the transfer market. Brendan Rodgers stated in an interview for the club´s official website that he is “looking forward to bringing in three or four players that can really affect the group.”
One of the important positions needs to be addressed is the left wing. Liverpool have not had a decent left winger for years. In Brendan Rodgers´s football philosophy wingers play a very important role. They are used to create space with their pace, cut inside and either go on goal or try to feed the lone striker. With Liverpool´s budget of around £30-40 million the club will need to be very careful in choosing their targets. Here is a short list of few quality targets for the left wing position.
Age: 21
Nationality: Uruguayan
Club: Bologna
Value: 15m£
The young Uruguayan playing for Bologna has been mentioned by many as Liverpool´s top target of the summer. He is a versalite player, and can also play as central attacking midfielder as he does for Bologna. Ramirez is known for his excellent skills and dribbling, his good passing and eye for goal. Latest rumours suggest that Liverpool are in talks with Bologna over a transfer.
Age: 19
Natonality: Spanish, Basque
Club: Athletic Bilbao
Value: 17.5m£
Another youngster on the list. The young Basque midfielder has impressed with his performances in Europa League last term and it is no wonder that half of Europe´s top clubs want him. Munian is also a versalite player and can also play on the right wing or more centraly. His pace and creativity are impressive and can torment defenses as he showed last season. He has been on Liverpool´s radar for a long time, but the high price is a big stumbling block.
Age: 21
Nationality: French
Club: Real Sociedad
Value: 7m£
The Real Sociedad youngster is a perfect example of a modern left winger. Griezmann scored 8 goals and provided 4 assists last season, not a bad return for a young winger. He would be the perfect choice for Liverpool as he will cost less than the two named above but has similar qualities. He has been linked with Liverpool recently, although nothing concrete seems to be happening.
Although Liverpool do have a few left wingers, but Cole is past his best, Bellamy is aged and Downing had a horrendous season last time around. Its on Brendan Rodgers to find a suitable player to fill the position if he wishes to. In my opinion, Liverpool need a young vibrant winger in their starting lineup to push for fourth place and the ones mentioned are no less than quality players.

Out of all these, only Ramirez is close and he is perhaps the only possibility. Munian is too good but cant sign him. Never heard of the last one to be honest
I say we use sterling about same age as Muniain and I would buy ramirez but use him as attacking midfielder and playing sterling on the left also we have Suso who is also a great talent even though he doesn’t play left wing we can still use him somehow, been watching him in the euro under19 and his been superb! I say get Ramirez and use suso, sterling.
Ivan, how have you completely ignored the fact that we have Raheem Sterling playing on the left wing?
Agreed, sterling should be given the chance now, Hes a massive asset
Raheem sterling will do better at that wing and am sure BG will use him
We all have great hopes for Raheem Sterling and I am sure he will get 10 – 15 games in all competitions next year, but he is not ready to start 30 – 40 games. He would make a good backup and I am sure he will be used in the Europa league. The transfer targets listed above are ideal as we no need someone who can pay the right wing too
