Luis Garcia has shared his belief that Rafael Benitez was not the problem of Real Madrid over the time of his tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu. He also said that in his opinion, Benitez was “the right man” for the Spanish club.
Former manager Rafael Benitez was given the sack in January 2016, only seven months after he was appointed as a successor to the club’s previous boss Carlo Ancelotti.
Luis Garcia personally knows Rafael Benitez from the time he spent under the coach at Liverpool. The 37-year-old player has commented on the situation at Real Madrid, saying that it might turn out that the club’s problems are actually bigger than the manager. According to the midfielder, the fact that Real Madrid has been unable to gain ground on their eternal rival Barcelona since the departure of Benitez comes as a proof that the manager should not be considered as La Liga’s club major problem.
In an interview for a reputable sports media Luis Garcia confessed that he thought Benitez as the right man for Real Madrid, especially considering the fact that he had already known the club, as he had spent a lot of years there before actually knowing the way the team worked. In addition, the player revealed that Rafael Benitez had been waiting for the chance to take the lead of Real Madrid for many years.
The 37-year-old player, who is currently part of Central Coast Mariners FC, has shared that it had really been a lot of time for Real Madrid without winning a trophy. The club managed to win the Champions League title a couple of years ago, but it seems that La Liga competition had been very difficult for them. Luis Garcia also added that Real Madrid are used to winning and they are not not normally satisfied with finishing second.
According to Garcia, former manager Benitez had done what he could to adapt the players to the way he worked, but things had not worked out the way they were supposed to. Then, after the appointment of Zinedine Zidane at the managerial position, things had started quite well for the club, but Garcia also explained this is something normal for a team that have changed their head coach. He also explained that the Spanish grand still have a lot of work to do in order to gain ground on Barcelona, which means that Rafael Benitez had probably not been the real problem of Real Madrid.
In addition, Luis Garcia shared his belief that the Frenchman would be provided with more chances in comparison to his predecessor. The player revealed his expectations that Zidane would be given another chance next year in order for him to try re-organise the team, bring in some new players and adapt them to his style.
