Paris Saint-Germain Keep League 1 Position after 5-1 Defeat over Lyon

Paris Saint-Germain kept the first place in the Ligue 1 table after it managed to win 5-1 over Olympique Lyonnais, which currently occupies the sixth position in the national championship’s table. The French grand’s victory at Parc des Princes on Sunday opened a 17-point gap, leaving the club unbeaten for 27 league matches and securing their impressive dominance in Ligue 1.

Paris Saint-Germain netted twice in a period of 17 minutes thanks to the fact that Olympique Lyonnais lacked a large number of players who were supposed to be present and take part in the game. The forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic and defender Serge Aurier netted in less than 20 minutes, as a demonstration of the PSG’s dominance over the visitors.

Seven minutes later, Olympique Lyonnais managed to score a goal after Jordan Ferri took advantage of a mistake of the goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. However, even Ferri’s 25-yard effort could not prevent what happened in the second half of the match.

The third goal for Paris Saint-Germain came from Edinson Cavani, and the fourth one was netted by Ibrahimovic once again. The latter added a penalty, while Lucas Moura cemented the victory after scoring the 5th goal for the team. The smashing win of the French grand puts doubt on the head coach of Olympique Lyonnais – Hubert Fournier – who has been with the team since 2014.

As a matter of fact, the team of Lyon was put in danger of being overrun since the very beginning. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Serge Aurier send their opponents some warning signs in the very opening minutes, after Ibrahimovic send the ball right to Olimpique Lyonnais’ gate, but did not succeeded in netting. However, he managed to score in 11th minute, putting Paris Saint-Germain with a goal ahead.

In addition, as already mentioned above, Olimpique Lyonnais was lacking some of its most important players. Alexandre Lacazette did not enter the field after suffering a hamstring injury in the club’s victory over Valencia, leaving Claudio Beauvue as the only frontman of Lyon.

The second goal soon put PSG in complete control of the game, regardless of the fact that Lyon managed to score in the 24th minute. The third goal for the French champions came in the 62th minute after a great collaboration between Di Maria on the left and Cavani, with the latter scoring his 10th goal in the French Ligue 1.

Ibrahimovic made the result 4-1 after a penalty on 77 minutes of play, while the fifth goal for the club came in stoppage time with Moura slamming the ball into the roof of the net.

After the great performance on Sunday, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Angel Di Maria now top Paris Saint-Germain ratings with 8 points out of 10 each. Regardless of his hesitant start of the match, Di Maria still managed to finish the night with a total of three assists and several fantastic passes from the left side and the central areas, too. Ibrahimovic, on the other hand, once again proved his great skills, ending he match with two goals on his side.
