Juventus’ midfielder, Paul Pogba, attracted attention on his return to Champions League action. The player was featured in Juventus’ starting lineup in their clash against Manchester City, which took place at the Old Lady’s home ground, yesterday evening. Although many Juve key players were missing from the pitch, the Serie A team managed to secure a 1 to 0 win against Man City.
The French footballer once again demonstrated his spectacular form and composure, the very qualities which made him one of the most sought after players in recent years. The midfielder’s skills became evident as he made a masterful pass to his team mate, Paulo Dybala.
Even though it was not Pogba, who scored the goal against Manchester City, all eyes were fixed on him. The player paid his individual tribute to the victims, who lost their lives in the recent terror attacks in the French capital. A Frenchman himself, the football player wore boots, emblazoned with the French tricolour last evening.
The midfielder was born just 25 kilometres from the French capital’s centre, in the Seine-et-Marne department. He spent his early childhood there and later on played for the French national team.
It is only natural Pogba decided to honour the memory of the attacks’ victims, and extend his condolences to their relatives. What’s more the 22-year old midfielder himself, was present at the Stade de France, when suicide bombers detonated two bombs just outside the venue. Pogba was playing with the French team against Germany in the international friendly. Stade de France was only the first of six locations, the terrorists targeted that day. Later on, gunmen stormed the Bataclan theatre and opened fire against civilians in a Paris restaurant.
The Nike boots Pogba sported at yesterday’s match, were custom-made and designed especially for the event. The Juventus-Man City game is Pogba’s first outing since his return from international duty. The midfielder assisted the Serie A team in their 1 to 0 win against City, which ensured the Old Lady’s qualification for the final stages of the Champions League. However, it was Juve’s Croatian striker, Mario Mandzukic, who scored the winning goal.
Pogba’s performance also attracted the attention of former France midfielder, Emmanuel Petit, who praised the young player’s potential and went as far as saying, Pogba should become Juve’s leader on the pitch. Petit is positive that, if allowed more freedom on the field, Pogba would fulfil his full potential and would demonstrate his skills to the maximum. The former midfielder concluded with the suggestion, Pogba would perform even better, if Juventus was more tactically balanced.
