Chelsea Interested in Buying Saido Berahino

Saido Berahino, the current West Bromwich Albion striker, has become a target of Chelsea and according to the latest reports, the Blues are considering to submit a £20million bid during the next transfer window in January.

Chelsea fans are not surprised by the latest news about their favourite team. Berahino has emerged as a prominent footballer and bearing in mind that Chelsea intends to strengthen its squad, the chances for Berahino to join the club in January are pretty high.

In point of fact, Berahino is expected to replace Radamel Falcao, who is due to leave Stamford Bridge, so hiring a new striker is among Mourinho’s top priorities. Rumour has it that Edinson Cavani, Alexandre Lacazette and Gonzalo Higuain are also likely to join Chelsea, but Berahino is said to be Chelsea’s main target.

By January, Berahino will have only 18 months left on his contract at West Bromwich, which is yet another indication that he may join the Blues, not to mention that his recruitment is expected to boost Chelsea’s home-grown quota.

Berahino was in the spotlight during the summer transfer window when he was the main target of Tottenham Hotspur. However, Jeremy Peace, West Brom’s chairman, was reluctant to let Berahino go. As a result, he rejected a total of four bids submitted by the Spurs.

The striker was reintegrated into West Brom’s squad, but it seems Tottenham Hotspur has not lost interest in closing the deal, despite the existing arguments between Daniel Levy and Jeremy Peace.

Back in the summer, West Brom valued the striker at £25 million and now, the club is once again in the position of a “reluctant seller” due to the fact that West Brom’s chairman is not particularly keen on “doing business” in January. In addition, the team is still in danger of facing a relegation battle, so selling a key player could have an extremely negative impact on the club.

Yet, no information about a potential extension of Berahino’s contract with West Brom has been released. Despite being reluctant to sell him, West Brom chairman is well-aware of the fact that the as the time passes, Berahino’s value decreases. Although Albion claims that they would not accept anything but a £25 million deal, they might eventually settle for Chelsea’s £20 million bid, a sum sufficient enough to enable West Brom to strengthen his squad.
