De Gea Does Not Regret Staying at Manchester United

David De Gea, the Spanish footballer, who currently plays as a goalkeeper for Manchester United, announced that he was “really happy” for being part of the Red Devils’ team in spite of his previous intentions to join Real Madrid.

At the beginning of the season, De Gea was marginalised by the Man United manager Louis Van Gaal and at that time, it seemed like De Gea’s move to the Spanish Real Madrid was just a matter of time.

However, the paperwork deadline was missed because the two clubs failed to negotiate the transfer terms and as a result, the Spaniard had to make an important decision. He had to choose between leaving Manchester United in 2016 when Real Madrid might have already lost interest in completing the transfer or signing a new contract and staying at the Old Trafford.

At the end of the day, he decided to continue playing for the Red Devils but his decision created rumours and speculations.

According to more or less reliable sources, the new contract De Gea signed with Man United contains a release clause estimated at £30 million. Yet, the goalkeeper hurried up to explain that a transfer to Real in the summer of 2016 is not among his priorities.

De Gea was quoted saying that extending his contract with Man United seemed like the most sensible decision at that time. He also added that being part of one of the biggest football clubs on a global scale made him really happy. De Gea disapproved the statements that he was disappointed and added that he appreciates the love of his fans.

The goalkeeper confirmed that the turn of events did not disappoint him and said that football is a game where everything can change in a matter of minutes. However, all difficult moments he went through helped him become more confident and mature.

De Gea did not miss to thank Van Gaal for the support and the confidence the Man United manager gave him. De Gea expressed his gratitude for all efforts Van Gaal put into helping him get back to the squad and continue achieving major milestones together with Man United.

Yet, the goalkeeper admitted that despite being “hard and strong”, United’s manager was also a “joker” as he wanted to ensure the good mood of all players.

However, two major changes are due to happen. First of all, Real Madrid is likely to reignite its interest in De Gea and second, the Red Devils are going to have hard times when it comes to defence as the excellent form of Chris Smalling is not going to last forever.
