Chelsea Made Yet Another History

Chelsea Made Yet Another HistoryFew months back, against all odds, Chelsea made history by winning the European Cup for the very first time. Last night, the blues made yet another history by becoming the first reigning champions ever to be knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages.
Roberto Di Matteo who led Chelsea to glory in Munich, could not survive the axe after series of average performances in the premier and champions league.
Interim manager Rafa Benitez was only left with reliance on results elsewhere to have any chance of retaining the coveted trophy but it was not going to happen. Chelsea were ousted and will play in Europa League.
Benitez finally won his first game for the blues on the fourth time of asking but that win proved absolutely nothing as Juventus defeated Shakhtar in Ukraine to clinch top spot in the group. Unlike his previous games, last night Chelsea were rampant and blown away Nordsjaelland by scoring 6 goals against their poor defensive setup.
The first half was all about hand balls and penalties as three of them were awarded but only the last one was converted by David Luiz. Fernando Torres was a major threat throughout the game as he finally scored not once but twice. Adding to that he was a complete menace for the opponent’s defense and fully deserved his man of the match accolade.
Juan Mata, Oscar and Gary Cahill were other scorers for the Blues whereas Joshua John was on the score sheet for Nordsjaelland, netting right after the break.
The Chelsea fans were in full voice supporting their team as they went into half time break leading 2-0. On the other hand, Shakhtar had to win their game for Chelsea to qualify. However, when Juventus took the lead against Shakhtar in the 56th minute through Sebastian Giovinco, silence struck Stamford Bridge as the fans knew their dream of qualifying for the knockout stages was slowly but surely breaking into pieces.
Despite the exit, on a positive note, this win will help Chelsea regain their lost confidence much needed to compete in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup where they should be favorites to win with such a talented squad. Whether or not this victory revives their premier league campaign under Benitez, we shall see but for now Chelsea have been on the wrong side of breaking a champions league record.
